Types of Scaffold Ties and Their Importance
Ties are critical for scaffold stability, especially in high wind areas or when enclosures are used. Types of ties include:
- Box Ties: Secure scaffolds to columns or pillars.
- Push-Pull Ties: Anchor directly to the supporting structure.
- Window Ties: Installed through openings like windows or doors.
- Beam Clamp Ties: Used on steel beams, installed in pairs.
- Reveal Ties: Rely on friction, used as a last resort.
- Guy Wires: Used when no adjacent structure is available.
All ties must be installed by a competent person and be capable of supporting
anticipated loads. The anchor is the most crucial component—if it fails, the entire tie fails.
